We have had some challenging requests over more than half a century of making etched signs; labels to go into space, and nameplates for the hottest and coldest places on this planet. Making awards for an agricultural show should therefore be very simple, but they had to be robust enough to display on cattle pens.
That was the challenge given to Minto Branding, one of our long-standing customers. The brief was for good quality plaques that had to be robust and substantial, in full colour. The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland Show is one of the most prestigious agricultural shows in the world, so they had to be top quality. If you have ever encountered a prize bull weighing over a ton, caged in a cattle pen, you will know why they needed to be robust.
Nothing would do the job better than our anoprinted aluminium. Top quality colour graphics inside the tough surface of anodised aluminium. It is one of the most robust products on the market, and is harder than glass, so unlike reverse-printed plastics and laminates, it will not scuff or scratch if it gets clattered against the steel bars of livestock pens.
To make these awards as tough as possible, 3mm aluminium was used instead of the standard 2mm used for signage. The material had to be specially made, but Minto Branding have years of experience in handling projects like this and were able to plan around the longer production time. Everything was completed ahead of schedule, and the show organisers were delighted with what Minto Branding had designed for them.
Dates of events like this are always fixed. There is no margin for error, so you need to have total faith in your suppliers. The same is true for hotel openings, and any sort of event with a fixed date. Even projects like apartment builds have crucial dates. The interior signage is almost always part of the construction package, and if that is not signed off on time, your customer will miss a stage-payment date, and millions of pounds in finances will be put back, potentially causing serious consequences. This is why we put customer service at the heart of everything we do, so you can take on these jobs with confidence.
To make sure we provide this service at all times, we keep on top of equipment maintenance. All key equipment is serviced regularly, and if necessary, replaced and updated, but one thing we simply cannot replace is our trusty old guillotine. At 60 years old, it is way past its sell-by date, and we have looked at a range of brand new replacements, but none of them will do the job we need. In a rare moment of downtime, its original motor died without warning. Thankfully, we have brilliant maintenance engineers who fitted a new motor and serviced it, resulting in almost no lost time, and not a single job failed to be completed in time. Even these experts said nothing new will do the job as well, so we plan on getting another 60 years out of this superb piece of kit.
